TEXTILE ART CLASS

In this  Textile Art Class, I will treat you as both stitching enthusiasts and artists for the day and take you through a range of appliqué and stitching techniques to help build your knowledge, skills and confidence to create an artwork using textiles and threads as your palette.

You will explore shading, dimension and composition. Each class offers something new, including mini tutorials on how to include mixed media and machine stitched elements into your work. As each artwork comes to completion, participants will be guided on how to prepare work for display (framing or hanging) and for dedicated art students ways to present your work for study assignments and/or enter into art exhibitions.

My style of teaching is inclusive and easy going and students are encouraged to work at their own pace. The word ‘perfect’ is gently placed aside whilst the artistic process is in progress and  “the more flaws the better, the more interesting the piece becomes. I have six golden rules I abide by: “nothing is right or wrong; no unpicking; mix warm and cool, dark and light colours; bring bold and delicate prints together; respect the marks you make with stitch;  and believe in yourself!”

Come and have a day of artistic enjoyment. There are layers of learning to stimulate the mind and you will experience satisfaction in completing your very own textile artwork. Individuals who have participated in one or more of my classes are amazed with how each piece naturally evolves and how ‘in tune’ they become to the process, and what the fabrics, colours and textures are telling them!
